In Germany, inpatient treatment for pneumonia caused by coronavirus infection is estimated at about 10.7 thousand euros. The data is based on information from insurance companies that have calculated the average cost of treating patients with COVID-19 during hospitalization, Deutsche Welle reports.
At the same time, if doctors do not use mechanical ventilation devices (IVL), the treatment will cost 5 thousand euros, if this technique is still needed, then the cost will increase to 38.5 thousand euros. This was stated by a representative of the association of state health insurance funds AOK in Germany.
The Barmer company also noted that if the connection to a ventilator is optional, then the price for treating a patient in an inpatient mode will amount to 6.9 thousand euros. If additional medical equipment is important, the service fee will rise to 31.7 thousand euros.
Ventilators are said to be needed by only 14 percent of all infected patients.
As of October 18, 5,587 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Germany. During the entire time of the pandemic, more than 360 thousand infected were identified, of which 290 thousand were recovered, and about 9850 died from complications.
