Georgy Dzhikia became the author of the best goal of the Russian national football team in 2021. This was reported on the official Twitter page of the national team.
Spartak defender scored a ball through himself against the Slovenian national team in the selection match for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Jikia's goal helped the Russians win the meeting. The match ended with a score of 2: 1.
The Russian national team scored 22 points in the qualifying tournament and finished second in Group H, missing out on the opportunity to directly qualify for the world championship. The team will take part in the 2022 World Cup play-offs at the end of March.
In the semifinals, the rivals of Valery Karpin's team will be the Poles. The teams will meet at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow. If successful, the Russian national team will compete for reaching the final of the World Cup in a confrontation with the winner of the Sweden – Czech Republic pair.
