The head of the analytical research department of the Higher School of Financial Management, Mikhail Kogan, in an interview with the Prime edition, predicted a weakening of the ruble in early 2022.

According to the analyst, geopolitics will affect the ruble exchange rate, as well as the actions of investors, traders and regulators in foreign markets. So, due to geopolitics, the rate of the Russian currency may fall by several percentage points.

“The supply of oil and gas to the world market and the attitude of the market to Russian assets depend on the actions and statements of the authorities, as well as publications in the world's leading media,” Kogan said, adding that any news published in the United States that mentions Russia and war, can lower the rate of the Russian currency by several percentage points.

“Any derivatives from these words or hints can also easily correct both the Russian stock market and the ruble exchange rate,” the expert noted, adding that the ruble at the beginning of 2022 will cost about 75 rubles per dollar and 85 – 86 rubles for Euro.

Earlier, the expert on the stock market “BCS World of Investments” Dmitry Babin assessed the risks of a collapse of the ruble against the backdrop of an unsuccessful November for the Russian currency. The financier recalled that, in addition to the geopolitical situation, the ruble was under pressure, including a drop in oil prices due to the threat of a new strain of coronavirus.
