Olga Sokolova, partner of Digital Guru Reputation Management and Social Media Analytics Agency, explained why it is dangerous to copy passwords to the clipboard. This can lead to their vulnerability, and subsequently – theft by intruders.

– The clipboard is generally not a safe place to store information, – the expert in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.

When you clear the clipboard, usually all information is deleted from memory, but due to browser security settings and the banal carelessness of users, this information may end up in the hands of criminals.

Many programs are able to save the copy history, and access to it is sometimes requested by some sites. And not all browsers are protected against such requests. For example, it is not available in Internet Explorer prior to version 7.

– If you copy passwords to the clipboard, do not forget to check that you definitely erased what you copied later, and check if the history of your copies is saved somewhere, – the specialist advised.

Information leakage is one of the key threats of our time. The head of the Zecurion analytical center, Vladimir Ulyanov, told 360 that most often such events happen because of the human factor, and not hacks.

Sometimes it is people who have access to various databases through their own carelessness or malicious intent who transmit confidential information.

Meanwhile, a study by Tinkoff Business showed that a quarter of SME companies work with an unprotected database: attackers can gain access to it by simply brute-force passwords.

The current situation threatens to leak user data and commercial information, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
