More than half of Americans (56 percent) refused to characterize Ukraine as an ally of the United States, according to a survey conducted by Politico with Morning Consult.

According to the survey, 36 respondents consider Ukraine a friendly country, but not an ally, another 15 percent called it “unfriendly, but not an enemy.” Only 5 percent of Americans consider Ukraine an enemy, and 20 percent consider allies. Another 23 percent found it difficult to answer.

It is also indicated that 48 of respondents support the decision of US President Joe Biden to send American forces to Eastern Europe, 33 percent opposed. In addition, the efforts of the White House to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation were supported by 57 percent of respondents. Another 58 percent approved of NATO’s position on Ukraine’s inclusion in the alliance.

The opinion on how Biden himself copes with the conflict between Ukraine and Russia was divided almost equally: 39 percent approved, 40 percent disapproved.

Reports about “Russia’s plans to invade Ukraine” appeared in the American media in the fall of 2021. They were quickly picked up by American and Ukrainian politicians. Against the background of these statements, Kiev managed to achieve new arms supplies from NATO countries. Moscow denies reports of aggressive plans against Ukraine.
