Roman Shirokov
Lawyer Alexander Ostrovsky, defending the interests of judge Nikita Danchenkov, commented on the initiation of a criminal case against the former football player Roman Shirokov. His words are quoted by “Championship.com”.
The lawyer did not agree with how the police qualified the beating of the judge by Shirokov, and saw an attempted murder in the player's actions. “We believe there is intent here. Shirokov kicked in the head. If the head were not covered with hands, it would have flown off, ”Ostrovsky said.
According to the lawyer, he has not yet been officially notified of the initiation of the case. He prepares a complaint to the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee.
The fact that a criminal case was opened against Shirokov due to an attack on a judge became known earlier on September 15. Under article 115 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Deliberate infliction of minor harm to health”), a football player is threatened with correctional labor or arrest.
Shirokov beat the referee during the match on August 10. He hit the referee several times. Later, the footballer apologized to Danchenkov on Instagram, but he went to the police.
Shirokov is known for his performances for Zenit, Spartak and Krasnodar. He has three titles of the champion of Russia, as well as a victory in the UEFA Cup. In addition, the midfielder played 56 matches for the Russian national team and won bronze at the 2008 European Championship. After completing his career, he became an expert on Match TV, but was removed from broadcasts in connection with the incident.
