INTERFAX.RU – The increase in mortality from coronavirus in the Russian Federation may be associated with the aggressive effect of infection on the lungs and cardiovascular system, as well as with the late treatment of patients for medical care, says academician, director of the Research Institute of Pulmonology Alexander Chuchalin.
“There is no unequivocal answer to the question of why mortality is increasing against the background of a decrease in the incidence of COVID-19. But still, four reasons can be distinguished,” Chuchalin told Interfax.
“Firstly, very late treatment of patients to doctors, attempts to self-medicate. Based on my practice, sick people go to doctors on average on the tenth to twelfth days, that is, when the so-called second critical day develops. They enter intensive care. , “to the red zone” with the syndrome of “black lung” and require complex methods of treatment, “- said the academician.
The second reason the scientist calls is that “this disease affects the appearance of blood clots in the vessels.” “Doctors determined this fact during autopsy (postmortem examination and examination of the body, including internal organs – IF),” Chuchalin continued.
The third factor, in his opinion, is “cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, initial damage to the liver, kidneys, and so on.”
“The fourth reason is vascular damage in the so-called acute bullous lung disease (the disease is fraught with a reduction in the content of bound oxygen in the blood and impaired removal of spent carbon dioxide – IF), while air bubbles form in the lungs,” said the head of the Research Institute of Pulmonology.
“In addition, I would not rule out those patients who are already in post-coid syndrome (a pathological condition after coronavirus, which can be accompanied by various symptoms – IF),” Chuchalin noted.
“Now doctors are trying to comprehend and analyze all this. But still, in the center of all these tragic events is, first of all, the defeat of small vessels,” the scientist concluded.
