Julian Nagelsmann
Does Lucas Hernandez have to go to jail? A court hearing on Tuesday will decide whether the Frenchman will have to serve a prison sentence.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, meanwhile, demonstratively backed his protégé and wants to use the 25-year-old against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Just like in the Champions League on Wednesday at Benfica Lisbon – one day after the hearing before the criminal court 32 of Madrid.
“He's in my plans for both games. If he's healthy, he'll play these games too,” the coach shooting star demonstratively builds on Bayern's record entry.
“I experienced him quite normally and did not notice any negative effects. If I had not read it in the newspaper, I would not have asked him if something was going on. He behaves quite normally and has made a good impression,” added the 34-year-olds, wiped the issue aside again before the Bundesliga hit against the “Werkself” (Sunday, 3:30 p.m.).
Of course, it's not that simple. Hernandez has to appear before the court in Madrid on Tuesday. The Frenchman is told that he has ten days to voluntarily begin his six-month sentence in a prison of his choice.
In 2019, Hernandez was sentenced to six months in prison after the defender failed to observe a ban on approaching his then girlfriend and current wife Amelie. After a public argument and the ban on contact imposed in February 2017, the couple quickly reconciled and flew to Miami together. When he returned to Spain – Hernandez was playing for Atletico Madrid at the time – the disregard for the ban on contact was noticed.
“On Tuesday he'll fly down there and then we'll look further,” said Bayern President Herbert Hainer on Thursday, cautiously.
