That is why Vettel did not have his corona vaccination

Sebastian Vettel steps on the brake pedal – at least when it comes to the corona vaccination. The German does not want to be immunized yet.

Around the start of the season in Bahrain, the desert emirate had offered the Formula 1 circus a vaccination program. Several pilots and team members were vaccinated during the test drives and the Grand Prix weekend. Not Vettel, however.

The clear announcement from the Germans: “I deliberately decided not to do it because it's not my turn yet.”

“It is then questionable whether my vaccine, which I have not used, will benefit someone else. But it is a matter of principle,” said the Aston Martin driver on the sidelines of the Grand Prix weekend in Imola on “RTL”. “There are many people who want to be vaccinated, many have to wait. Younger people are not as at risk as older ones,” continued the four-time world champion.

In any case, there is no question that Germans can be immunized: “I'll get vaccinated, but only when it's my turn.”

Vettel was particularly thoughtful recently. Climate change, sustainability, nutrition – the German repeatedly raises his voice clearly, most recently as a bee ambassador alongside Austria's tennis star Dominic Thiem. “It is definitely a time when we have to be aware that we can and must do something. I think that a major change is just around the corner,” said the German.

Changes that will also be reflected in Formula 1. The motorsport “premier class” wants to become CO2-neutral by 2030. “It has to be the approach that one does not preach renunciation, but recognizes the opportunity, what can be done better.”
