The country decided to accept the invitation.
Thailand decided to join BRICS as a partner country, accepting Russia's official invitation.
This was announced by government spokesman Jirayu Hungsub, Bangkok reports Post.
Hungsub said that in response to the official invitation from Russia on October 31, the country's government made a positive decision at a cabinet meeting on December 24.
“A cabinet meeting was held on December 24, at which it was decided that Thailand would give a positive response to this invitation. On the same day, the Thai Foreign Minister sent a letter to the Russian Foreign Minister, in which Thailand's consent to join BRICS as a partner country was given,” Hungsub said.
According to the country's officials, “BRICS membership will benefit Thailand by promoting trade, investment, food and energy security.”
Recall that Bloomberg previously reported that Turkey officially asked to join the BRICS group of developing countries.
