Tesla autopilot makes a race on one of the most dangerous tracks in the United States “Dragon's Tail”
A Tesla electric car on autopilot drove along the deadly Dragon Tail track. A demo video is available on the CGP Gray YouTube channel.
The author of the channel drove along the Dragon Tail track using the Full Self-Driving system. Located on the border of the states of Tennessee and North Carolina, the 18-kilometer highway, which has more than three hundred turns, is called one of the most dangerous highways in the United States. “Dragon's Tail” attracts the attention of race car drivers, it often has accidents.
The blogger started the autopilot on the car and drove all the way using the built-in control system. At the same time, the author – as Tesla advises – kept his hands on the steering wheel all the way in order to take control in case of a dangerous situation. The YouTube blogger noticed that throughout the trip, the car kept its lane, maneuvered independently and reacted to oncoming vehicles.
As a result, the author drove to the end of the track and returned without incident. Throughout the road, the vehicle, driven by an automated system, kept the speed in the range of 30-40 kilometers per hour.
In early December, Gizmodo reporters criticized Tesla for the possibility of launching video games while driving. The authors noted that drivers can neglect safety and be distracted by games while driving an electric car.
