Washington sees NATO as the most vital organization it has ever been.
White House rejects former president's comments US Donald Trump on his failure to protect NATO allies from a possible Russian invasion, calling them “terrible and senseless.”
This is stated in a Reuters report citing the words of Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates.
“Encouraging invasion of the countries of our closest allies by murderous regimes is terrible and abnormal – and it threatens American national security, global stability and our domestic economy,” Bates said.
He noted that now, under the presidency of current US President Joe Biden, “NATO is the most vital organization it has ever been.”
Recall that during a rally in South Carolina, Donald Trump said that if he were the US President, he would encourage Russia to attack those European countries that spend little on defense. He warned about aid to Ukraine, as well as the existence of NATO, a 31-nation alliance that the United States has pledged to defend if necessary.
