The talks between Russia and NATO may take place on January 12. The possible date of the meeting was revealed by the Anadolu agency, citing sources in the alliance.
According to the newspaper, the secretary general of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg decided to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council at this very time. It is noted that at the moment this issue is being discussed with representatives of Moscow. It is noted that on the same day in Brussels a meeting of the chiefs of the General Staff of the NATO member states will be held.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is interested in getting a response from the US and NATO to its proposals on security guarantees as soon as possible. “There can be no deadlines here. We are interested in this as soon as possible, ”said the press secretary of the Russian president.
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced draft agreements with NATO and the United States on security guarantees. The documents contain calls not to view Moscow as an enemy, not to create a threat of military escalation and to abandon NATO's eastward expansion.
