Tens of thousands of Americans quit the U.S. Republican Party after supporters of former Republican President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6. It is reported by The Hill with reference to open data.
It is reported that only in those states whose authorities report refusal to register voters – Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, Florida and several others – there were 30 thousand fewer registered Republican supporters.
It is noted that this may be the “tip of the iceberg” – there is simply no data for other states – and testify to a disappointing forecast for the Republican Party. The current situation is already deplorable: they lost the presidential race and failed to retain the majority in the Senate, the upper house of the American parliament.
Protesters against the election results, Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building on January 6 and surrounded the Senate hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. Dozens of people were detained, five people were killed.
