Tencent will ban children from playing games at night

by alex

The Chinese company Tencent has announced that it will verify the accounts of gamers who play at night from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am through facial recognition. If the company discovers that a gamer is under 18, he will be denied access to games. Tencent also owns the rights to one of the most popular online games in the world – League of Legends.

The company said that from 22:00 they will offer users to carry out face recognition: if the user refuses or does not pass the test, the health monitoring system will turn on, and the user will be thrown out of the game.

Tencent made this decision in accordance with a 2019 Chinese law that forbids users under the age of 18 to play video games at night, and only allows 90 minutes of play on weekdays. There are also monthly limits on in-game microtransactions. In China, they took these measures, as they fear an increase in children's dependence on video games.
