Mario Sonnleitner dropped a small transfer bomb on Thursday, the Rapid veteran is hiring from competitor Hartberg.
Ironically, at the start of the league, the Styrian, who had not received a new contract with Rapid, comes as an opponent to the Allianz Stadium.
Rapid receives TSV Hartberg in Vienna Hütteldorf in the first round of the Bundesliga. After 357 competitive games for the green-whites, the 34-year-old will be on the other side again.
In over ten years at Rapid, “Sonni” was runner-up five times and reached the Europa League group stage six times. The defender was denied a title in Vienna, with Sturm he won the cup in 2010 before moving to Hütteldorf.
“You are a Rapidler for a lifetime,” said Sonnleitner after his last appearance in the green and white Leiberl – it can go that fast. On July 24th, he wants to stop the Rapid attacks in the Hartberg dress.
The fan favorite will certainly be welcomed in a friendly manner before kick-off. Hartberg could even come to Vienna with two other ex-Rapidlers in their luggage. Philipp Huspek and Dominik Wydra are talking to the Styrians.
