The European Commission plans to initiate an extension of the term for granting temporary protection to Ukrainians until 2025.
The European Commission plans, if necessary, to initiate an extension of the period for granting temporary protection to Ukrainians until 2025 who left because of a full-scale war in Russia.
This was reported by the press service of the EC.
“The European Union is ready to support Ukraine for as long as necessary. Protection has already been extended until March 2024 and can be extended even until 2025. The Commission is ready to take the necessary steps for a further extension, if necessary,” the message says.
It is noted that the EU approach will be applied to ensure a smooth transition to alternative legal statuses, allowing citizens of Ukraine to access rights after the maximum period of temporary protection has expired.
Since March 4, 2022, about 4 million Ukrainians have received immediate protection in the EU.
Recall that the Cypriot authorities extended the status of persons under temporary protection to citizens of Ukraine until March 4, 2024.
