Telegram has banned logging into an account via SMS on a computer

by alex

Telegram-channel Telegram Info reported that Pavel Durov's messenger prohibited authorization via SMS on versions for computer and web.

According to the source, Telegram Desktop, Telegram MacOS clients and all official web versions (Webogram, WebK, WebZ, React) no longer send the Telegram authorization code via SMS. To log into your account, the user needs a mobile device that has already been authorized. The code will come in the application.

Interestingly, authorization via SMS continues to work in mobile messenger clients, as well as in unofficial versions of Telegram Desktop.

Telegram developers have not yet commented on the situation. The authors of Telegram Info noted that the innovation can be very inconvenient – if there is no device at hand on which authorization is performed, you will first have to download the Telegram application on another gadget and enter it. How justified the innovation is from a security point of view is also unclear.
