The Svetlana Tikhanovskaya Telegram channel, which is run by the team of the former presidential candidate in Belarus, has been recognized as extremist material. This decision was made by the court of the Tsentralny district of Minsk based on the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, according to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption (GUBOP) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Subscribing to Telegram channels and chats, recognized as extremist, entails responsibility,” the department warned.
On October 13, the Council of Ministers of the republic signed a decree according to which the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus will draw up and publish a list of citizens, foreigners and public organizations involved, in the opinion of the country's leadership, in extremist activities.
It is noted that along with this, a republican commission will appear in Belarus, which will study the “information products” and symbols “for the presence of signs of extremism in them.”
Earlier it became known that the Belarusian authorities intend to prosecute subscribers of telegram channels recognized as “extremist”. Many opposition channels have recently received this classification, which actively covered the protests in the country after the presidential elections a year ago.
In July, the Telegram channel of blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky, the wife of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, “Country for Life” was included in the republican list of extremist materials.
