Caitlin Koons of Cleveland is accused of killing 53-year-old Nicole Jones. According to police, the murder occurred days after Caitlin Coons ran away from her foster home to meet Jonathan Jones.
Koons reportedly gave Jonathan 5 hours to kill his own mother. And when the man could not do this, the minor girl decided to deal with her boyfriend’s mother herself.
It is known that Jonathan has a criminal record, in particular for distributing obscene materials. The man began a relationship with 17-year-old Caitlin Koons, even before suspicions were raised against him.
On April 11, 2023, Jonathan picked up Caitlin from the cafe and took her to his mother's house, where he lived. Koons climbed into the house through a window to hide from Nicole, who did not approve of her 33-year-old son's relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
According to prosecutors, already in the house, Caitlin ordered Jones to kill her mother and gave him 5 hours to do it.
However, after Jones failed to do so, Koons took matters into her own hands. The girl hit 53-year-old Nicole Jones with a rock before strangling her.
“She went outside, got a rock, and as Nicole Jones stood in front of the refrigerator in the kitchen, Caitlin struck Nicole Jones several times and strangled her,” Lucas County Prosecutor Andy Lastra said.
At this time, Jones was sitting in the living room. After the murder, the couple went to stores to buy tarps and trash bags to clean up the crime scene.
Nicole's body was driven to a nearby apartment complex in Jones' car and dumped in the trash. Police say the body will likely never be found because it was taken to a landfill along with the trash.
Koons then texted the nurse at her old foster home to say that she had killed two people and was running away.
After the attack on April 11, the couple fled across the southern border into Mexico and were put on the wanted list. A month later the police discovered them.
Although Caitlin Koons is a minor, she is charged with aggravated murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Koons admitted to killing the woman.
