Honored Coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatiana Tarasova appreciated the call of the Canadian journalist of the CBC Sports channel Sarah Jenkins to remove figure skating from the Olympic Games program due to the dominance of Russia. Her words are quoted by RB Sport.
“There are a lot of jerks!” — this is the phrase the coach called the behavior of Canadians. She stressed that she did not understand the motivation of Jenkins and refused to discuss their behavior further. Tarasova said she was satisfied with the results of Russian athletes at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Jenkins launched her initiative on February 7. She offered to give up figure skating because of Russia’s leadership, ski racing because of Norway, bobsleigh because of Germany and speed skating because of the Netherlands. Later, in a comment to Sport-Express, she said that it was ironic.
Earlier in the day, Russian figure skaters won the Olympic team tournament in Beijing. Among the Russians, the winners were Kamila Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov, as well as Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov.
