American director Quentin Tarantino criticized Todd Phillpeace's “Joker”. Reported by Movie Web.
The filmmaker called the tape with Joaquin Phoenix in the title role slightly monotonous. “What world do we live in? Taking the great films of the 1970s and transforming them into pop culture artifacts? ” – the director asked. He compared Joker to Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese, and To the Stars with Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.
At the same time, Tarantino admitted that he was impressed by the scene in which the main character comes to a talk show to the character of Robert De Niro. The director emphasized that the host is not a villain, but Phillips managed to shoot the episode in such a way that the audience wishes him death. “They [the filmmakers] made the audience think like crazy,” said the filmmaker.
Last year, Tarantino selected the best films of all time. The list includes such films as “Jaws”, “Five Tombs on the Way to Cairo”, “Yours Only”, “Carrie”, “Pandora's Box”, “Five Fingers of Death”, “His Girlfriend Friday”, “Taxi Driver”, “Puncture”, “Rio Bravo”. Topping the list is the painting by Sergio Leone “The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.”
