The Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia ) will return to the practice of the death penalty and chopping off of limbs that was used in their first period of rule. This was stated in an interview with Associated Press by Nureddin Torabi, head of the Penitentiary Commission.
From 1996 to 2001, the official headed the Taliban-controlled ministries of justice and the ministry of promoting the desirable and prohibiting the reprehensible. Torabi condemned the international community's interference in the internal affairs of the country and their outrage at the executions of the Taliban in the past, which sometimes took place in front of the crowd at the stadium. He said that the radical group intends to renew Islamic punishment.
“Everyone criticized us for the executions in the stadium, but we never said anything about their laws and punishments. Nobody will tell us what our laws should be. We will follow Islam and will establish our laws based on the Koran, ”the official stressed.
However, now women will also be able to participate in the consideration of cases in court, but the Koran will be the main law of Afghanistan. Torabi also argues that the practice of chopping off limbs has a positive effect on safety and has a “deterrent effect.” The issue of the publicity of the punishments is still under discussion with the government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ( IEA, a state formation proclaimed by the Taliban ).
Earlier, Taliban fighters closed down the Ministry of Women's Affairs in Kabul and in its place reopened the Ministry of Islamic Conscription and Guidance, Encouraging the Desirable and Prohibiting the Objectionable. From 1996 to 2001, the body existed to make repressive and punitive decisions and performed the functions of the “morality police”. He drew condemnation from both the local population and the world community.
