Taliban decide to ban music in Afghanistan

by alex

The Taliban terrorist group (banned in Russia) intends to ban public performance of music in Afghanistan, since, in their opinion, this does not correspond to the norms of Islam. This was stated in an interview with The New York Times by a representative of the Zabihullah Mujahid group.

According to the newspaper, Zabihullah Mujahid, who is now acting as the group's press secretary, may become the minister of information and culture in the country's new government.

“Music is forbidden in Islam, but we hope we can convince people not to do such things, instead of putting pressure on them,” Mujahid said.

At the same time, he said that the Taliban did not intend to prohibit women from leaving the house or necessarily cover their faces. And the requirement that women should always be accompanied by a male guardian when leaving the house, he called “misunderstood” – escort of men will be obligatory only on long trips lasting more than three days. “If they go to school, office, university or hospital, they don't need a mahram [male guardian],” he said.

Earlier, Mujahid, on behalf of the group, urged women in Afghanistan not to leave their homes temporarily, explaining this for security reasons. The danger, he said, may be the Taliban fighters themselves.

“We are concerned that our forces <...> have not yet been well trained and may mistreat women. We do not want our forces to harm or persecute women, ”he said.
