On August 6, the radical Taliban movement (recognized as terrorist in Russia and banned) claimed responsibility for the assassination of Dawa Khan Minapal, head of the Afghan government's information center.
“This is a military situation. <...> On their part, everyone who is affiliated with the Kabul administration, whether they are journalists or non-journalists, is working against us day and night. Dozens of our journalists were killed as a result of bombing and targeted killings, ”a representative of the Suhel Shahin movement told RBC on August 9.
He added that the situation in the country shows the need to end the war and reach a peaceful solution through negotiation.
The Afghan Interior Ministry reported that Dawa Khan Minapal was killed “in a special attack by fighters” in Kabul off the Darulaman highway near the Russian embassy.
The situation in Afghanistan worsened after the withdrawal of the American military from the country, which by now has practically ended. The Taliban launched an offensive against the positions of government forces. The militants claim that as of August 9, six provinces of the country are already under their full control.
On Monday, they partially occupied the provincial capital of Samangan, the city of Aybak, a source told RIA Novosti. Tolo News also reported about the seizure of a part of the city. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the terrorists have no military ability to keep large cities under their control.
