Taiwanese started buying chips out of belief in their ability to protect technology

by alex

In Taiwan, people started buying Kuai Kuai corn chips because of a strange superstition – it is believed that this product protects equipment from breakdowns.

Because of this, many Taiwanese use chips as a talisman and store them in offices, banks, laboratories and hospitals.

Chips manufacturer Kuai Kuai was founded in 1968. The product was intended for children. The name of the chips is translated from Chinese and Taiwanese as “be good”. One graduate student who was involved in information technology drew attention to the product. He was working on his dissertation, and his computer sometimes malfunctioned. Then the graduate student joked that Kuai Kuai chips could be a mascot for his technique. He began to put the bag of snacks on the computer. According to him, the technique has ceased to junk.

This legend has given a mystical meaning to ordinary chips. Manufacturer Kuai Kuai believes this belief helped the brand survive.
