Sydney authorities announced a lockdown
The authorities of the Australian state of New South Wales are imposing severe restrictive measures in four central districts of Sydney due to the worsening situation with the new coronavirus, TASS reports.
According to the Prime Minister of the region Gladys Berejiklyan, “four districts of Sydney will be quarantined after the number of people infected in the metropolis increased by 22 per day, reaching 65.”
Residents of these areas should stay at home, leaving their homes only in cases of emergency, and those who have been there in the past two weeks should be tested for coronavirus and self-isolate.
In the quarantined areas of Sydney, all enterprises, institutions and departments will stop working, with the exception of shops, pharmacies, gas stations and banks.
The lockdown is expected to last until Friday, July 2.
Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that the country's borders will remain closed until December 2022.
Recall that the Australian authorities closed the borders of the state on March 24, 2020 in connection with the pandemic. Citizens of the country are allowed to enter, but they must withstand a two-week quarantine.
