The Swiss People's Party (SVP) initiated the referendum. According to her representatives, migrants make the country less secure. The Guardian notes that, according to preliminary polls, 63 percent of the country's residents are not going to vote to end free movement with the EU.
The referendum will take place on September 27. The proposal to abandon the immigration agreement with the EU is one of five issues that will be discussed during the next national vote. In addition to traveling with the European Union, citizens will vote on a package for the purchase of new fighters and will voice their opinions on proposals related to family politics, as well as wildlife and hunting.
Switzerland already held a referendum in 2014 to end free movement. Then the majority voted in favor of maintaining such a system.
