~6 0~p>An exception may be made for the president of the aggressor state to participate in the conference on peace in Ukraine.
Swiss President Viola Amherd said that Vladimir Putin can avoid arrest on an International Criminal Court warrant if he comes to this country for the next peace conference in Ukraine.
She spoke about this while answering questions from journalists at a press conference following the results of the last summit.
“If the presence of a statesman is necessary for the conference, then you can make an exception. And in the case of peace negotiations in Ukraine with Russia, this would be just such a case. But this must be the government’s decision,” the Swiss president said.
Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis confirmed that Putin will probably be able to avoid arrest.
“This is possible in accordance with our laws. Of course, we must do this together with the ISS, but as a host state, we can make an exception,” he said.
Recall that on March 17, 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for the war crime of deporting Ukrainian children to Russia. Now the Kremlin dictator risks being arrested if he visits one of the 123 countries in the world that is not part of Russia’s ever-shrinking “circle of friends.”
