The parallel competitions continue to cause a lot of explosives in the Ski World Cup. That is why the Swiss ski stars decided to boycott.
After the reform of the World Cup calendar, which brought about a balance between technical and speed disciplines, there was hardly any space left for parallel events. There will only be one race man against man and woman against woman in the coming season: on November 13th and 14th in Lech.
There, however, the Swiss ski stars will forego their appearance. A boycott against the only remaining parallel competition in the World Cup, a protest against the World Ski Federation. “We want to set an example for the FIS with our refusal to start. The World Championships clearly showed that the rules in the parallel format are not fair. Nevertheless, the FIS has not adjusted the rules. That is why we are making a start in this one Discipline also makes no sense, “rumbled Justin Murisier in the Swiss” Blick “.
With this, the technician addressed the often big difference between the two courses. Neither course setting nor slope conditions can be absolutely identical, they often bring the decisive hundredths. For TV reasons, however, there is no decision to go there and back.
But Murisier also brought other concerns into play. “Because of the small distance between the two courses, the risk of injury in the parallel giant is particularly great. Skiing is not suitable for a duel against one another. We should continue to focus on the fight against time.”
Marco Odermann and Loic Meillard also joined the protest, as did Melanie Meillard and Michelle Gisin for the women. “Every discipline is dangerous. But this one a little more. For me it is not worth investing so much work into a race in winter,” said Meillard. And Gisin added: “They actually wanted to build their own skis for this discipline. But that never happened. The result is that the radii don't fit.”
