The Swiss ambassador stressed that his country did not sign any communiqués following the meeting held between China and Brazil.
Swiss Ambassador to Ukraine Felix Baumann claims that the misunderstanding regarding his country's alleged support for the so-called Chinese-Brazilian “peace initiative” arose due to the presence of a Swiss representative as observer.
He made this explanation in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
The Swiss ambassador stressed that his country did not sign any communiqués after the meeting held between China and Brazil on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“We were at the meeting, but as observers… Switzerland has not changed its position,” Baumann noted.
According to him, the Swiss position is that “any decision in response to Russia's full-scale military aggression against Ukraine must fully respect international law, the Charter of the United Nations and, in particular, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”.
The diplomat called the final communiqué of the First Global Peace Summit in Ukraine, which took place in Switzerland in June of this year, an example of a peace plan that respects the aforementioned fundamental principles.
“This summit was built on preliminary discussions based on the Ukrainian Peace Formula and other peace proposals consistent with international law and the UN Charter,” Baumann said.
Recall that earlier information appeared that the Swiss Foreign Ministry expressed support for the peace plan of China and Brazil to end the war in Ukraine.
