King and Queen Carl XVI of Sweden Gustav and Sylvia have contracted the coronavirus after receiving a booster vaccine. This was announced by the Norway Today newspaper with reference to the press service of the Swedish Royal House.

This became known from the results of tests for COVID-19. In a statement, the royal entourage emphasizes that the disease is mild and the king and queen “feel good, given the circumstances.” According to a representative of the royal family, the easy course of the disease is facilitated by the vaccination of Charles XVI and his wife with three doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

In October 2021, the king of Sweden expressed the opinion that the lifting of restrictions aimed at combating COVID-19 in the country came too early. Due to the easing of restrictions, the king of Sweden urged citizens to be careful. His wife urged his compatriots to get vaccinated.

At the same time, at the end of September, Sweden's chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said that vaccination makes other ways to combat COVID-19 unnecessary. “All the other things we've tried will no longer be important because high vaccination rates are the only way we can get out of this pandemic,” he said.
