Less than half of Swedes remained confident in the loyalty of the government's chosen strategy to combat the coronavirus. Reported by Dagens Nyheter.
The poll found that 82 percent of Swedes have doubts about the ability of their health care system to cope with the workload during a pandemic. In addition, the number of people disappointed in the chosen strategy is growing – in a month the share of those supporting the method with the abandonment of quarantine fell from 55 to 42 percent, and 44 percent consider the current measures to be insufficient. Experts believe that such numbers indicate a growing anxiety in society.
Earlier it was reported that this year life expectancy in Sweden will fall for the first time in 120 years – since 1900. For women, the indicator can decrease from 84.7 years to 84.4, for men – from 81.3 years to 80.8.
Unlike most countries in the world, Sweden has abandoned the quarantine. The authorities have adopted a number of recommendations, but they are mostly voluntary. In mid-November, the country acknowledged the failure of its herd-immunity approach to the pandemic. Now the number of people admitted to hospitals with coronavirus in Sweden is growing faster than in the rest of Europe, and in Stockholm, every fifth test is positive.
