Several Swedish companies wanted to produce the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. This is reported by SvD Näringsliv.
Sweden's vaccination coordinator Richard Bergström said the Russian vaccine could be approved in the EU no earlier than May. He said that “serious negotiations” are under way between Sputnik V's developers and several Swedish companies, but declined to comment further.
Earlier, Bergström said that Sweden is interested in the supply of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus and may receive the first batch by the summer. The official also praised the high effectiveness of the Russian drug, calling the results of clinical trials promising.
On March 4, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) began an examination of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. The European regulator expects that the assessment will take place in a shorter time frame. Hungary and Slovakia have already approved the use of “Sputnik V” on an individual basis, without waiting for the registration of the drug in the EU. RIA Novosti reported, citing a source, that the Russian drug could be approved in the EU in the second half of May.
