Tumso Abdurakhmanov

A court in Sweden found two Russians guilty of an attempt on the life of Chechen blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. This is reported by the Aftonbladet edition.

Defendant Ruslan Mamaev was sentenced to ten years in prison, while his accomplice Elmira Shapiaeva was sentenced to eight years. The investigation established that the reason for the attack on the blogger was criticism of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, as well as his father and former president of the republic, Akhmat Kadyrov. “All traces of the investigation point to Grozny,” said prosecutor Per Lindqvist during the trial.

It was also established that the criminals were preparing for the assassination attempt and held meetings in Moscow and Grozny. For the murder of the blogger, the criminals were promised to pay 60 thousand euros (5.4 million rubles).

The convicts were ordered to pay Abdurakhmanov 140 thousand Swedish kronor (about 1.3 million rubles). After serving their sentence, they are deported without the right to return.

Earlier, Mamaev, during the court session, explained his actions by “order from Grozny.” The accused stated that he did not want to carry out this order and planned to fail the task. He pleaded guilty to the attack and applied for political asylum in Sweden. Mamaev's lawyer Gustav Andersson said in court that his client could not disobey the people who sent him from Grozny to Sweden.

The attack on Abdurakhmanov became known in February. It was reported that the attacker introduced himself as a policeman and made his way into the apartment where the blogger lives. He tried to kill the sleeping Abdurakhmanov with a hammer, the victim was hospitalized. According to the blogger's brother, before the attempt on his life, Abdurakhmanov received threats.

In Chechnya, they said that the attack on Abdurakhmanov looked like a comedy, and pointed out the inaccuracies in the “staging”. The head of the Chechnya Segodnya agency, Chingiz Akhmadov, suggested that there would be several more parts of “this film”.

Tumso Abdurakhmanov was forced to leave Russia in 2015 due to a conflict with the nephew of the head of Chechnya, Islam Kadyrov. Abdurakhmanov stands for the independence of Chechnya and its separation from Russia. He and other supporters of Ichkeria who left the country were nicknamed Euroichkerians.
