Swedish experts from the Research Institute for Defense Research have recognized that Russia will have superiority over NATO countries in the event of a large-scale war in the immediate vicinity of Sweden. This is stated in the report “Western military capabilities in Northern Europe – 2020”, reports TASS.
“If there is not enough time for Western defense training, Russia will have a clear advantage in our immediate vicinity, especially on the ground,” said executive editor of the report, Christer Pallin, adding that such an advantage could last long enough.
According to the expert, in order for the United States to be able to arrive in Sweden with larger ground forces, it will take at least a couple of months. “NATO countries are not conducting enough exercises, their forces, despite their advantage in the air and at sea, are dispersed geographically and have very different military capabilities,” he stressed.
Pallin acknowledged that the alliance does not need to build up its forces, but it needs to move faster. “Despite the increase in military spending and the approach of NATO's positions to Russia, there have been no major changes in the balance of forces,” the specialist concluded.
Earlier, the journalists of the Polish edition Gazeta Polska modeled the scenario of a nuclear war between Russia and NATO. In their opinion, in the event of a conflict, the Russian side will be ready to use “the most deadly weapon.” According to experts, the strategic position of this place and the variety of weapons that are deployed there can ensure the success of the Russian side in the first hours of a possible war.
