Sweden expressed concern over Russia's decision to leave Don

by alex

Swedish MP Markus Wichel expressed concern about Russia's decision to leave the Open Skies Treaty (OON). This will deprive Stockholm of the opportunity to take advantage of the agreement, he said. Vikhel sent a letter of advice to the Minister of Defense of the country Peter Hultkvist.

The MP recalled that Stockholm does not have intelligence satellites, and Moscow's withdrawal from the Treaty could significantly affect the country's awareness of military issues.

All information about the Russian military potential in areas significant for the kingdom, the Swedish servicemen could receive only through intelligence operations within the framework of the Don. However, now the country is deprived of this opportunity.

“Now, unfortunately, there are many indications that the treaty is falling apart, as Russia announced its intention to withdraw from it. Therefore, we will no longer be able to receive as much information about the forces deployed in close proximity to us as before, ”the RT deputy quotes.

As a reminder, on January 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the country would begin domestic procedures to withdraw the Russian Federation from the Don. At the same time, the official representative of the ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that the decision was not demonstrative for the new administration of the US President-elect Joe Biden, Izvestia reports.
