The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina started with a victory over the French tennis player Fiona Ferro in the first round of the Australian Open-2022.
The Ukrainian in two sets turned out to be stronger than her opponent – 6:1, 7:6 (7:4).
In the first game, Svitolina gave only one rally to Ferro, while the French woman herself lost three times on her serves. The second set was difficult. The tennis players alternately exchanged parties and it came to a tie-break, where Svitolina put the squeeze on her opponent.
During the match, the Ukrainian filed for relegation four times, while Ferro did not make a single ace during the match. The Frenchwoman made two double faults compared to Svetolina's one.
In the second round, Elina will meet with one representative of France, Harmony Khan, who defeated the Kazakhstani tennis player Yulia Putintseva in straight sets. The game will take place on January 19.
In addition to Svetolina, four more Ukrainians will start today in the first round – Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, Angelina Kalinina and Lesya Tsurenko.
But the reigning Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic was still deported from Australia and he will not be able to defend his title.
On the eve of the Australian Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against the decision to annul the Serb's visa.
Djokovic's visa was canceled after his arrival in Melbourne on January 6, when the tennis player did not provide evidence for exemption from vaccination, which is mandatory for entry into Australia.
