Russian General Surovikin appeared in photographs in Africa, where Wagner mercenaries are present.
New photographs have appeared on the Internet depicting the Russian General Sergei Surovikin, who disappeared from the public space in June after the rebellion of the leader of the Wagnerites, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
The photographs were published by the Gray Zone telegram channel associated with the Wagner PMC, reports the BBC.
“Army General Sergei Surovikin was spotted in African Algeria. Earlier, the African countries where the Wagner Group is present were visited by the Deputy Minister of Defense [RF] Colonel General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, as well as the Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate (GRU) of the General Staff [RF ] Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev,” says the comments to the photo.
The publication's interlocutors connected Surovikin's trip to this African country with the fact that “the military-political leadership of the country attaches great importance to the eastern direction in the implementation of foreign policy.”

On September 4, General Surovikin appeared for the first time since the June mutiny in a photograph shown by Russian propagandist Ksenia Sobchak. The photo shows the general in civilian clothes, wearing sunglasses and a hat, walking down the street next to his wife. The location is difficult to understand from the photograph.
Subsequently, The New York Times reported that the Russian general was indeed allegedly released from custody. This happened a few days after the death of the leader of the Wagnerites, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Later it became known that a new position had allegedly been invented for the former commander of the United Group of Forces. He was elected head of the CIS Coordination Committee on Air Defense Issues.
