One in five Americans said they would not want to buy a new iPhone model if the name of the device contains the number 13. Apple has not yet announced what it will call the smartphone, but the company's previous iPhone was the 12th. In general, almost three quarters of US residents are confident that the corporation should abandon the number 13 in the name of the new device. Most suggest staying at the laconic version of the iPhone.
SellCell surveyed 3,000 people in the US on the preferred name for Apple's new smartphone, Cult of Mac reported. Only 26% of respondents voted for the iPhone 13 option, while the majority (38%) chose the iPhone without numbers and other additional characters.
It turned out that the fear of the number 13 could prevent 18.3% of Americans from buying a next-generation Apple smartphone with that name. Overall, the number worries about 9-10% of Americans. SellCell clarified that men (24.9%) are twice as likely to suffer from phobias as women (11.7%).
The survey participants also mentioned other variants of the name of the smartphone. Approximately one in six (16%) offered to sell the iPhone under the number 21 – in honor of the year of release. However, the authors of the article noted that such a name can confuse buyers. The previous iPhone came out at number 12, and as a result, the company will have to skip nine positions at once.
Slightly fewer (13%) of respondents decided that Apple should name its new smartphone iPhone 12S. The corporation used this naming model before. For example, in 2015, the iPhone 6S was introduced. However, journalists believe that this will not relieve Apple of the need to bypass number 13 in the future.
Another 7% of Americans suggested skipping the number 13 and immediately releasing the iPhone 14. The portal recalled that the corporation had already done this – after the iPhone 8, it was not the iPhone 9 that went on sale, but the iPhone X, which got its name in honor of the 10th anniversary of the release the first such device.
The portal noted that the new iPhone is unlikely to differ significantly from the previous model, but some new items are still predicted by experts. According to rumors, the device will receive a more powerful A15 chip, a ProMotion display at least in the Pro line, a new matte black body color, the ability to store 1 terabyte (TB) of data, a LIDAR scanner, an improved battery and a reduced “bangs” at the top of the screen.
