Aldi Süd customers have to be prepared for a major change in the branches. The supermarket chain is planning a change to the cash registers.
The food discounter Aldi Süd (note in Austria Hofer) is planning a serious restructuring of the checkout area. Typically known as the “Quengelzone”, the shelves shortly before the payment area have mainly offered sweets. At Aldi Süd, however, that should change in the future.
According to information from the “Lebensmittelzeitung”, the supermarket chain wants to convert the checkout areas and thus offer even more space for other products in the future. In the cash desk area, articles such as disinfectants, everyday masks and other hygiene items are to be offered more and more.
As well as everyday objects such as batteries. The aim is to offer a flexible range that is even better geared towards the current interests of customers. Depending on the needs of the buyer, the range of products should then be adapted.
Means: Depending on the location, the checkout areas could offer different items in the future. It is also hoped that the conversions will create more space for even more products.
“By placing the items in different box sizes in line with the volume and demand, we can generally create space for additional items,” Aldi Süd told the “Lebensmittelzeitung”. It is currently not known whether the changes to the cash registers are also planned for Hofer branches in Austria.
Hofer boss Horst Leitner recently announced a new store concept in an interview with the “CASH” retail magazine. In addition to examining new locations, this also includes completely setting up new branches. This could also mean changes in the area of the cash registers.
