Supermarket increases price for FFP2 mask after 1 week

by alex

The REWE Group increases the price for FFP2 masks from Hygiene Austria to EUR 0.79. The supermarket chain Spar remains at 0.59 euros.

With the introduction of the mask requirement in supermarkets, the REWE Group (Billa, Merkur, Penny), like Spar, sold FFP2 masks from the Austrian Hygiene Austria for EUR 0.59 per mask and EUR 5.90 per pack of 10.

But after just one week, the Rewe Group has lowered the price for the Austrian FFP2 masks by 34 percent to 0.79 euros or to 7.90 euros for the pack of 10. The page “Stadtpolitik Wien” reported on Tuesday. However, FFP2 masks can also be bought at REWE for 0.59 cents – but from a Chinese manufacturer.

Paul Pöttschacher, spokesman for the REWE Group, told “Stadtpolitik Wien” that the significantly higher production costs for the Hygiene Austria masks make the difference in price. However, free masks will continue to be distributed to customers who do not wear an FFP2 mask, provided they are available.

The Spar Group wants to continue to sell the Austrian masks for EUR 0.59, the report goes on to say. “SPAR sees this as a service to the customer,” explains group spokeswoman Nicole Berkmann to “Stadtpolitik Wien”.
