Microsoft has launched a test of Safe Mode for its Edge browser. In theory, SDSM protects against malicious code.
How? By disabling a feature of the JavaScript engine known as Just-in-Time (JIT). It transforms bytecode into machine code, thus increasing the speed of loading pages. The flip side of the coin is the complex JIT structure, which opens the way to exploits. Earlier, Mozilla experts found that from 2018 to 2021, attackers used JIT vulnerabilities in more than 50% of exploits.
In the future, Microsoft plans to make Super Protected Mode smart. That is, it will be activated only when the user visits potentially dangerous sites.
You can already look into SDSM. It is enough to go to the address in edge: // flags in the Canary, Dev and Beta versions.
From other interesting news: The first beta version of Windows 11 has finally been released.
