Su-34 crashes during training flight
The plane crash occurred on July 1 near the city of Kulebaki in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia. The Su-34 was performing a training flight when it suddenly lost control and crashed.
At first, Russian media reported that the two-person crew had allegedly ejected successfully. However, it later became known that one of the pilots had died from injuries after landing.
The deceased was 41-year-old navigator Major Alexander Pavlov. He was born on February 1, 1984, in a village in Buryatia and graduated from the Chelyabinsk Higher Military Aviation School of Navigators in 2008.
Pavlov participated in military operations in Syria and actively fought against Ukraine. During his service, he carried out more than 1,500 combat sorties and received 12 state awards.
Pavlov's death was officially announced only on July 6, although the crash occurred on July 1. The pilot's funeral is planned for July 7 in his native village.
The administration of the Dzhidinsky district of Buryatia noted that Pavlov “saved the lives of civilians,” but did not officially release details regarding the circumstances of the disaster.
It is known that the Russian military airfield “Savasleyka” is located just 12 kilometers from the crash site. It was from there that Russian aircraft repeatedly took off to strike Ukrainian territory.
