Karl Schmidhofer
The surprise news came on Thursday: ÖSV President Karl Schmidhofer resigned after only 100 days in office.
It was not until July that Schmidhofer was elected ÖSV boss, becoming the successor to long-term president Peter Schröcksnadel.
The 59-year-old explains his sudden withdrawal: “My 35-year-old son was unexpectedly torn from his previous life by a stroke. As a father, you are concerned about how this will develop and how you can support it.”
The private stroke of fate led to the resignation of the Styrian. Secretary General Christian Scherer will manage the business on an interim basis, while Vice-President Roswitha Stadlober will temporarily take over the office. In the next week the ÖSV presidium will discuss how to proceed.
Schmidhofer regrets his departure: “I could never have imagined resigning, but my family help is needed. I will now subordinate everything so that I can help my family.”
