Trump will not want to lose military and economic influence.
If Donald Trump is elected President of the United States, he will not withdraw the country from NATO.
This opinion was expressed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference in Washington after the meeting of the North Atlantic Council.
He expressed hope that the United States not only will not leave NATO, but will also remain a key country in the bloc.
Stoltenberg named three reasons why Trump will not withdraw the United States from NATO.
“The first reason is because having a strong NATO is part of the security interests of the United States. The United States will be stronger with a strong alliance uniting 32 states. Russia does not have such an alliance behind it, China does not have such an alliance,” explained he.
NATO Secretary General noted that in an alliance with other countries, the United States will be economically and militarily more powerful.
“The United States is 25% of the world economy, but together with its partners it is 50% of the world economy, so it is in the interests of the United States to have a strong NATO,” he explained.
Stoltenberg also recalled that there is bipartisan support for NATO in Congress.
“The second reason is that in the United States there is bipartisan support for NATO membership. Everyone repeats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives that the United States benefits from having a strong Alliance,” Stoltenberg continued. < /p>
In addition, the NATO Secretary General recalled that in the past Trump criticized not the NATO bloc, but the fact that European allies did not invest enough in security.
“In 2014, only 3 states invested 2% in NATO, 3 years ago there were 10 such states, and now 23 states meet the 2% norm, and this number is growing,” he added.
Recall that it was previously reported that NATO is developing a plan to protect military aid to Ukraine from “Trump”.
In addition, we previously reported that Zelensky made a statement about Putin, Biden and Trump.
