The Secretary General of the Alliance noted that the outcome of the war in Ukraine will determine the global security system for decades.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said , that the biggest risk for the Alliance will be a Russian victory in the war against Ukraine.
Stoltenberg said this while speaking at the opening of the NATO summit in Washington on July 9, DW reports.
The Secretary General of the Alliance called on the countries of the bloc to more actively support Ukraine, which is defending itself from Russian aggression.
“The outcome of this war will determine the global security system for decades,” – said Stoltenberg.
He noted that “with aggressive Russia as a neighbor” there are no options “without losses and risks.”
“The biggest cost and the biggest risk will be a Russian victory in Ukraine. We cannot allow this,” – stressed the NATO Secretary General.
He added that a Russian victory in the war would embolden President Vladimir Putin and other authoritarian leaders in Iran, North Korea and China.

“It’s time to defend freedom and democracy,” said Stoltenberg.
He also advocated that NATO continue to accept new countries, such as Ukraine. The Secretary General noted that the expansion of the Alliance After the end of the Cold War, it united Europe, paved the way for integration, and brought peace and prosperity to the continent. Stoltenberg stressed that, as then, today it is necessary to show “clarity and determination.”
Recall that the day before, the former Chief of the British General Staff, General General Patrick Sanders, said that Russia, China and Iran pose a more deadly threat than the Nazis in 1939, so NATO needs to realize the real threat of World War III.
