Stoltenberg explained why NATO will not close the sky over Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Alliance is not ready to provide a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

The Secretary General said this before the start of the NATO summit.

Stoltenberg stressed that NATO member countries are providing significant military assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russian invaders. In particular, they trained tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers, and now they are fighting the invaders on the front lines.

According to Stoltenberg, NATO is also providing Ukraine with new air defense systems, anti-tank weapons, ammunition and fuel.

— But we have also made it clear that we will not send NATO troops to the ground or NATO aircraft in the air. We are doing this because we have a responsibility to ensure that this conflict does not go beyond Ukraine and lead to more suffering and death and destruction,” said Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The no-fly zone would mean that NATO would have to attack air defense systems in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine on a large scale, and would also be ready to shoot down Russian aircraft, Stoltenberg said. And it will lead to a full-scale war between NATO and Russia.
