The NATO Secretary General recalled the sovereign right of each country to choose its own path.

In response to a joint statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which the leaders of the two states, in particular, condemned the “expansion of NATO,” Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recalled the need to respect the free choice of every sovereign state.

Alliance spokeswoman Oana Lungescu wrote about this on Twitter.

“This is not about NATO expansion, but about respecting the right of every free nation to choose its own path,” she quotes the NATO Secretary General in a message.

Jens Stoltenberg stressed that no country has ever been forced to join NATO. Also, he does not see any threats in this process.

“The expansion of the Alliance spreads freedom and democracy in the countries,” the Secretary General of the Alliance said.

Recall that President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, paid an official visit to Beijing on February 4, 2022. The heads of state held talks and took part in the opening ceremony of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games.
