NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg: the expansion of the alliance has become a great success story

NATO’s expansion to the east is a “great success story,” Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with the American TV channel MSNBC.
According to him, this contributed to the spread of freedom and democracy in Europe. He commented on the joint statement of Russia and China, which states that the countries are against further expansion of NATO. Stoltenberg recalled that over the past decades, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe have joined the international organization. Since the end of the cold war, the number of members of the organization has almost doubled.
“The expansion of NATO over the past decades has become a great success story,” the Secretary General said.
Moscow and Beijing have previously called on the alliance to abandon the approaches of the Cold War, respect the sovereignty, security and interests of other states. Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, said that relations between Moscow and Beijing have acquired an unprecedented character.
